Virgin Media sees surge in super-fast fibre broadband customers

Wednesday, October 24th 2012 by Paul France
More than 450,000 homes signed up for speeds of 30Mbps or above with Virgin Media during the third quarter of 2012.

Virgin Media has reported a further surge in its super-fast fibre optic broadband customer base.

During the three months to September 30th 2012, the cable company saw another 452,900 households - including both new and existing Virgin Media subscribers - sign up for speeds of 30Mbps and above.

This rise in uptake means the number of homes with super-fast broadband from Virgin Media now stands at 1.8 million, or 42 per cent of the internet service provider's (ISP's) total broadband customers.

Around 44 per cent of new broadband subscribers took speeds of 60Mbps or higher throughout the three-month period, with 837,500 households now receiving speeds of between 50 and 120Mbps.

Elsewhere in the financial report, Virgin Media gave a progress update on its project to double the broadband speeds of more than four million customers.

As of Monday (October 22nd), more than 40 per cent of the ISP's network had been upgraded to deliver these faster speeds.
