Zen aims to tackle slow UK fibre broadband take-up

Monday, January 7th 2013 by Nigel Adie
A new offer from Zen is designed to boost uptake of super-fast broadband.

Zen Internet is aiming to take action over the perceived slow uptake of fibre optic broadband services in the UK.

The company claimed that while there are plenty of positive media reports about the rollout of faster networks and "exciting campaigns" from the larger players, there is a general lack of understanding about the services that are available.

Andrew Saunders, head of product management and marketing at Zen, warned: "This is slowing the uptake of faster services that are available to about 50 per cent of premises in the UK today."

He said many consumers are put off by the cost of installation, despite the fact that fibre broadband is typically around eight to ten times faster than traditional copper connections.

Consequently, the company has decided to remove this potential barrier by offering free installation on all fibre broadband packages until March 31st 2013.

Zen's super-fast broadband has proved popular since its introduction, with 94 per cent of customers prepared to recommend the service.
