Be admits fibre broadband launch is facing delays

The company looks set to miss its deadline of launching the service this year.

The launch of Be Broadband's first fibre optic broadband product is set to be delayed, the internet service provider (ISP) has admitted.

In a blog post, the company revealed it has struggled to find a partner that already owns a fibre-enabled broadband network, meaning the service is now unlikely to be rolled out to customers this year.

Be said it is poised to trial a solution in which it creates more of the infrastructure by installing larger amounts of its own equipment at the local exchange.

However, this small-scale pilot initiative will only involve the ISP's employees.

"We're putting lots of effort into making it happen and we're sorry that our initial goal of fibre products this year might not be possible," the company stated.

The news is even more frustrating given that Be co-founders Boris Ivanovic and Dana Tobak, who are no longer with the company, have succeeded in rolling out an up to 1Gbps fibre broadband service with new firm Hyperoptic.
