Bradford city centre gets fibre optic broadband boost

Friday, September 27th 2013 by Paul France
BT's fibre optic broadband rollout is set to bring superfast connections to 15,500 more homes in Bradford city centre.

A nationwide project by service provider BT is set to introduce a fibre optic broadband connection to 15,500 more homes and businesses in Bradford city centre by spring 2014.

The move has come as a result of a £2.5 billion investment intended to roll out superfast connections all over the UK.

BT's plans mark the end of the ongoing project in Bradford. It has stated these will be the last properties in the area that will be covered by the current development of digital infrastructure.

Neighbouring areas of West Yorkshire that will also enjoy improved fibre optic broadband access as a result of the latest announcement include Keighley and Burley-in-Wharfedale.

Leader of Bradford Metropolitan District Council Dave Green explained how there has been a recent drive to encourage local entrepreneurs to set up new businesses in the area. He claimed the rollout would be of invaluable benefit to the scheme.

He said: "We are pleased to hear this announcement, which will have enormous benefits for both businesses and residents in our district."
