BT boosts South Yorks fibre broadband footprint

More South Yorkshire properties have gained access to BT's fibre broadband service.

BT has rolled out high-speed fibre optic broadband to several more South Yorkshire communities.

More than 20,000 properties in Armthorpe, Maltby and Woodhouse are set to gain access to the service when engineers complete the local upgrade programme in the coming weeks.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, Doncaster, Askern, Balby and Rossington have already been connected to fibre broadband.

By the end of 2014, more than 39,000 homes and businesses in the region will be reached by BT's super-fast broadband network, which already passes over 13 million properties across the UK.

John Anderson, BT regional director for Yorkshire and the Humber, said the rapidly expanding fibre broadband infrastructure is "bringing a boost for local economies wherever it goes".

Sheffield Chamber of Commerce executive director Richard Wright added that the introduction of fibre optic broadband marks a significant step for South Yorkshire.

"High-speed digital connectivity is a defining factor in our long-term success," he remarked.
