BT Infinity fibre broadband rolled out in Suffolk

Over 54,000 Suffolk properties are set to gain access to super-fast broadband from BT.

The first homes and businesses in parts of Suffolk have been upgraded to receive BT's Infinity fibre optic broadband service.

Over the next few weeks, more than 54,000 properties in Ipswich, Woodbridge, Felixstowe and Haverhill will be connected to the company's super-fast broadband network, reports the East Anglian Daily Times.

BT is attempting to roll out fibre broadband to two-thirds of UK premises by the end of 2014.

Christopher Soule, chairman of Suffolk Federation of Small Businesses, described the announcement as great news for the county and pointed out that the organisation has been a "keen advocate" of high-speed broadband in the area.

"Fast broadband is an essential tool for local businesses and their customers alike, and is recognised globally as a catalyst for the creation of new jobs and businesses," he commented.

In April, a Regeneris Consulting report revealed that BT's fibre broadband rollouts delivered a £536 million boost to the Suffolk economy last year.
