The first Market Deeping properties have been connected to BT's fibre broadband service.

BT has rolled out fibre optic broadband to the first homes and businesses in the Lincolnshire town of Market Deeping.

According to the Stamford Mercury, around 6,000 commercial and residential premises are benefiting from the telecoms giant's latest rollout of super-fast broadband in the East Midlands.

Between now and the end of 2014, the internet service provider is aiming to deliver the technology to two-thirds of UK properties.

Paul Bimson, regional partnership director for BT in the East Midlands, said the launch of fibre broadband in the area will offer a "huge boost" for consumers and businesses.

"These are economically challenging times and super-fast broadband can transform their experience of the internet," he added.

Broadband speeds have already been improved in nearby Stamford, where home worker Lynne Male became the first resident to gain access to the service in December.

BT engineers were able to bring fibre broadband to Stamford three months sooner than expected.
