Calix to bring gigabit FTTP broadband to Derwenthorpe

A Yorkshire housing development is set to receive ultra-fast broadband access.

Calix is set to provide ultra-fast fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband connectivity to a new £40 million Yorkshire housing project.

A global provider of broadband communications access systems and software, Calix has more than 1,000 customers, which in turn serve over 50 million subscriber lines.

Speeds of up to 1Gbps will be rolled out to more than 540 properties in Derwenthorpe in a move that is expected to boost the local economy, allow more people to work from home and support a wide range of online services.

The community, which is located on the outskirts of York and has been designed by the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, incorporates several environmental features that will be complemented by offering residents fibre optic broadband access.

Andy Lockhart, senior vice president of international sales and marketing at Calix, said: "As Calix continues to expand its presence in the UK, we look forward to helping to bring broadband to similar communities and helping them to drive development in their local economies."
