CityFibre network benefits York NHS foundation trust

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is taking advantage of the CityFibre network.

The CityFibre fibre optic broadband network is being utilised by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (NHSFT) to reduce the number of visits made by patients.

Built by CityFibre and operated by Pinacl, the fibre optic connection links the trust's site at Clifton Park Clinic to the rest of the hospital, meaning it can now act as a one-stop clinic for adults with musculoskeletal problems.

Melanie Liley, directorate manager for therapies and trauma and orthopaedics at York NHSFT, said the service offers real, tangible savings for the healthcare provider and improved treatment for patients.

"It is integral to the successful delivery of the service and without it we would have had to source an alternative community-based location for the Extended Scope Practitioner clinics," she added.

CityFibre announced the completion of its York fibre optic broadband network at the end of October, revealing more than 100 council buildings and facilities had been connected.

By the start of this year, 100km of fibre optic cable had been laid across the city.
