Connecting Cambridgeshire details initial plans for fibre broadband rollout

Wednesday, June 5th 2013 by Paul France
Details of the first communities set to benefit from the Connecting Cambridgeshire scheme have been unveiled.

A map has been published detailing some of the first communities in line to benefit from the Connecting Cambridgeshire fibre optic broadband project.

More than 50 parishes and urban areas are being considered for the initial phase of the rollout, which ultimately aims to bring fibre-based broadband within reach of 98 per cent of homes and businesses across the county by the end of 2015.

The online map gives a general indication of communities with a chance of inclusion in the initial stages of the process, although this is subject to survey work. Information will be revealed over the coming months on future phases of the programme.

Later this year, a parish checker will be launched allowing residents to check how their area fits into the Connecting Cambridgeshire plan.

Cambridgeshire County Councillor Ian Bates, Cabinet Member for Growth and Planning, said: "Some areas will benefit sooner than others and no one wants to be last on the list for the rollout, but the important thing is that we are getting on with this now."
