New service to update Cambridgeshire residents on fibre broadband rollout

Friday, September 20th 2013 by Paul France
A new online service has been set up to inform Cambridgeshire residents when they will receive fibre optic broadband.

Connecting Cambridgeshire has set up a new page on its website that will update locals on when they can expect to receive a fibre optic broadband service.

BT is aiming to introduce superfast broadband to the whole of the county by the end of 2015, but with the project in its infancy the prospect of regular updates is likely to be welcome news for most.

The site will feature a list of 267 areas of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough - allowing visitors to view information on when their premises will become part of the rollout scheme.

Connecting Cambridge has claimed it will constantly monitor and update the pages as and when new information becomes available.

The service is run by Cambridgeshire County Council. Cabinet Member for Growth and Planning Councillor Ian Bates said as rollout projects have a tendency to hit delays, keeping residents informed with the most up-to-date details should be a priority.

He said: "Many issues can arise during survey or build of the network that could affect timescales, including the discovery of blocked or collapsed ducts or problems with providing power to new cabinets."
