Fibre broadband upgrade 'an important step for Malvern'

Thursday, December 13th 2012 by Nigel Adie
David Hughes of Malvern Hills District Council has hailed the launch of super-fast broadband at a local business park.

The arrival of fibre optic broadband at Malvern's largest employment site is an "important step" for the Worcestershire town, according to district council leader David Hughes.

BT recently completed the upgrade of a cabinet serving the Enigma Business Park following months of campaigning by the likes of local businesses, the Malvern Gazette, the local council and West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin.

Mr Hughes stressed that all parties involved have worked hard to secure faster broadband connectivity for the town.

"We welcome the news that this exciting new technology will now be available to more businesses in the area to help improve efficiencies, giving a real competitive edge," he said.

Now that BT has finished the latest round of work, 28 of the 55 street cabinets in Malvern are able to deliver super-fast broadband.

The telecoms giant has pledged to upgrade a further 20 cabinets either before the end of the year or in early 2013.
