Newport to benefit from digital infrastructure boost

New digital infrastructure is to bolster broadband services in Newport.

Plans for the introduction of new superfast broadband services to bolster connectivity in Newport, Wales have now been given the go-ahead.

Fibre optic network provider CityFibre has entered into a partnership with Logicalis, as the pair embark on delivery of a new high-capacity 'fibre broadband ring' that will connect more than 40 sites to superfast broadband services in the city centre.

CityFibre chief executive Greg Mesch stated: "As we move ever closer to living in a truly connected world, the network that runs throughout UK cities will increasingly act as the arteries that allow it to consistently evolve, technologically, for the benefit of its residents."

The scheme is being funded under the UK's ongoing Public Services Network (PSN) framework and will ensure Newport City Council can make use of the latest smart technologies both now and in the future.

Mark Starkey, managing director of Logicalis, added the project will future-proof local broadband networks and has the scope to support community-changing initiatives in the years ahead.
