Plusnet recommends fibre broadband for streaming

Consumers looking to stream movies have been urged to sign up for fibre broadband.

Fibre optic broadband is the best choice for consumers looking to take advantage of video streaming services such as Netflix, Plusnet has said.

According to the internet service provider (ISP), a 40Mbps fibre broadband connection allows users to download a 30-minute standard-definition television show in around one minute and a half-hour high-definition programme in about four minutes.

At ten times faster than a standard 4Mbps broadband line, fibre optic services will enable customers to stream content from all the major providers, Plusnet insisted.

The ISP added: "Fibre's not just great for movie streaming. It's lightning-fast when it comes to mp3 downloads and gaming too."

Plusnet's recommendations come shortly after the UK launch of Netflix, the US-based video streaming service that will go head to head with the likes of LOVEFiLM.

Netflix, which is also available in the Americas and Ireland, has amassed a worldwide customer base of more than 20 million streaming members.
