TalkTalk is launching an upgraded fibre optic broadband service with download speeds of 80 Mbps and upload speeds of 20 Mbps.

TalkTalk has announced the planned launch of a new 80 Mbps fibre optic broadband service in April 2012.

The new service will be offered for £15 extra a month and doubles the speeds provided by TalkTalk's existing 40 Mbps offering, with upload speeds of up to 20 Mbps also available.

According to the telecoms company, this new package will help to address consumer demand for faster connection speeds to seamlessly stream live TV and high-definition videos, communicate with others online or enjoy responsive online gaming experiences.

Pre-orders for the 80 Mbps service are now being accepted, while TalkTalk has also pledged to continue expanding its fibre optic coverage to more UK homes.

Tristia Clarke, commercial director at TalkTalk, said: "We expect our new super-fast fibre optic broadband to be very popular as it will allow the whole family to enjoy seamless connectivity and high upload and download speeds for unbeatable value."

TalkTalk's fibre broadband services are available to its Essentials or Plus phone and broadband package customers and are subject to 18-month minimum contracts.
