Zen Internet unveils 100Mbps fibre optic broadband service

A 100Mbps fibre optic broadband service has been launched by Zen Internet.

Zen Internet has become the latest provider to announce the launch of an up to 100Mbps fibre optic broadband service.

According to PC Pro, the product will initially only be available at four exchanges, although more are set to be upgraded to the technology at the start of next year.

The move means Zen has joined the likes of BT and Virgin Media in offering an ultra-fast 100Mbps broadband package. Residents in ten exchange areas across England have been able to sign up for BT's top-tier broadband service since early last week.

Andrew Saunders, head of product management at Zen Internet, said the company believes fibre optic broadband is set for a significant increase in uptake, although he admitted to being unclear about how long it will take to gain mass-market appeal.

"We're not sure if it's going to be in three years' time or five years' time when the tipping point will come, but it's the future," he declared.
