BT rolls out fibre broadband to Churston

Tuesday, August 13th 2013 by Paul France
Churston is the latest Devon community to gain access to superfast broadband.

Hundreds of homes and businesses in the Devon community of Churston are to be hooked up to fibre optic broadband thanks to BT's £2.5 billion commercial rollout.

The telecoms giant has already connected the first local properties and is planning to upgrade more than 2,200 over the coming weeks.

Superfast fibre broadband is already available in a number of other nearby communities, including Paignton, Brixham, St Marychurch in Torquay, Newton Abbot, Dartmouth and Teignmouth.

Several more, such as Bovey Tracey, Dawlish and Totnes, are set to gain access to the service before the end of the year.

By the end of next spring, just under 300,000 properties across the county should have been passed by BT's fibre optic network rollout.

Dr Sarah Wollaston, MP for the Totnes constituency, which includes Churston, said: "This is a significant step for Churston. High-speed digital connectivity is a defining factor in our long-term success."
