Fibre-to-the-home trial announced by TalkTalk

The company revealed it will test the technology with Sky.

Fibre to the home (FTTH) will be trialled by TalkTalk as part of its planned rollout of super-fast broadband using BT Openzone infrastructure.

The internet service provider (ISP) is set to test the technology via a small-scale network in north-west London that covers 3,600 homes.

This move is part of a shared research and development project with rival broadband outfit Sky, with the costs of the initiative being shared between the two companies.

In a statement, TalkTalk explained: "This project will allow us to input constructively into the Openreach FTTH programme, gaining insights into potential service offerings, set-up processes, usage patterns and costs to deliver."

Last month, the ISP's commercial director Tristia Clarke said it will soon be launching its up to 40Mbps fibre optic broadband service, which will be available as a boost to its existing packages.

She claimed the product is designed for users who place "heavy demands" on their home broadband connections.
