Broadband connectivity has now been rolled out to more than 100,000 homes across Devon and Somerset.

Superfast broadband services have now been delivered to more than 100,000 homes across Devon and Somerset.

The Connecting Devon and Somerset scheme achieved this impressive milestone last week as new infrastructure went live in the areas of Chard and Crewkerne.

It means that to date, 78,000 km of underground optical fibre cabling has been installed across the two counties, while a total of 456 new fibre broadband street cabinets have now been set live.

Councillor David Hall, Deputy Leader of Somerset County Council, stated: "Reaching this many people with fibre is wonderful news for Devon and Somerset. It puts us on track to reach our 90 per cent superfast goal by the end of 2016."

He added that funding for the project has now also been secured to help fulfil the local authority's goal of achieving 100 per cent superfast coverage by the end of the decade.
