Blisland IT firm welcomes launch of fibre broadband

The introduction of super-fast broadband in a remote Cornish village has been praised by a local IT company.

One of the first businesses in the Cornish village of Blisland to sign up for fibre optic broadband has spoken out about the benefits of the technology.

Local IT company Tanist has been connected to super-fast broadband by BT and now receives speeds of around 27Mbps - a significant increase on the average rates of 2.5Mbps it was previously able to access.

John Holman, director of Tanist, said fibre broadband has created "many efficiencies" for the firm, allowing it to take advantage of considerably faster file transfers and downloads.

In addition, upload speeds have risen from 0.4Mbps to more than 6Mbps, benefiting the company's IT support team when staff attempt to access systems remotely.

"Receiving this service has allowed us to progress our planned premises expansion where we would otherwise have had to relocate the business," he added.

Tanist has been connected to fibre broadband as part of the Superfast Cornwall project, which aims to bring the technology to up to 90 per cent of properties across the county and the Isles of Scilly by 2014.
