BT announces fibre broadband boost for Girvan

BT is rolling out super-fast broadband to the town of Girvan in Carrick.

BT is offering a boost to residents in Girvan stuck with slow internet connectivity after announcing it will roll out fibre optic broadband in the Carrick town.

The location has been named as one of 35 towns and cities across Scotland set to receive access to super-fast broadband in the latest phase of the telecoms giant's national deployment, reports the Carrick Gazette.

More than one million Scottish homes and businesses will be hooked up to next-generation broadband by the end of 2014 as part of BT's plan to bring the technology to two-thirds of the UK.

Girvan and South Carrick councillor Alec Clark expressed his hope that fibre broadband will be extended to all rural parts of South Carrick, where he said faster connectivity is "badly needed".

Carrick MSP Adam Ingram echoed these sentiments and added: "I will continue to make the case for this with both service providers and the Scottish government."
