BT assures Filey residents over fibre broadband plans

BT has told local residents in Filey that fibre broadband is on its way.

BT has told the people of Filey in North Yorkshire that its plans to roll out super-fast fibre broadband in the town remain on track.

According to the Filey Mercury, local residents expressed concern over an apparent lack of progress with the BT Infinity project, which was initially announced in January.

However, a spokesperson for BT told the newspaper that the scheme remains "on course" to go live in Filey by spring 2012.

He commented: "It may appear to be quiet at the moment, but that's not the case from the company's point of view."

The BT representative added that projects of this nature are always announced 12 months in advance "because of the sheer amount of work involved in the process".

Earlier this year, BT said customers in Filey will experience broadband speeds of up to 40Mbps once the project is completed.

It claimed many homes and businesses in the area are set to benefit from a tenfold increase in their connection speeds.
