Midsomer Norton and Radstock have received superfast broadband from BT.

BT has announced that Midsomer Norton and Radstock in north-east Somerset have become two of the latest areas to benefit from the switching on of superfast broadband services in the UK.

John Betty, strategic director for development and major projects at Bath and North East Somerset Council, said: "I welcome the opportunity for local householders and businesses to be at the forefront of benefiting from this exciting technology and the support this will give to our economic strategy for the area."

He added that this represents a significant investment in the area from both BT and local government to ensure properties have access to the fastest connectivity possible.

Elsewhere, local publication the News & Star recently reported that Cumbria council leader Eddie Martin has argued that delivering superfast broadband to every property in his constituency is one of the major aims of the council over the coming years.

He has pledged to ensure that each home in the district is connected to superfast services by 2015.
