Burton businesses welcome fibre broadband rollout

Burton businesses and the community will benefit from the introduction of new fibre broadband services, according to an expert.

Burton's business community has reacted warmly to news that super-fast fibre broadband has now been made widely available across the region.

Ian Page, chairman of the Burton Business Club, has hailed news that key areas of the town - such as Horninglow, Stretton and Brizlincote Valley - are now eligible for high-speed fibre connections as a "victory" for local firms and the wider community.

Mr Page has been involved in a long-running campaign to bring super-fast broadband to Burton due to concerns that slow internet speeds were damaging competitiveness among businesses, reports the Burton Mail.

The rollout had previously been hit by delays due to technical difficulties and the need for additional engineering work.

Now that the upgrade has been made by BT, even Faraday Avenue in Stretton - previously named the fourth slowest street in Britain in terms of internet speeds - will receive downloads of 36.4 Mbps.

"It has been a well-fought campaign and we've just about won it now. There are areas of the town still waiting for super-fast broadband but a lot of houses and businesses are now eligible," he said.
