Calix helps bring ultra-fast fibre broadband to Cotswolds villages

Gigabit fibre broadband has been rolled out to the villages of Conderton and Overbury.

Two Cotswolds villages have gained access to ultra-fast fibre optic broadband thanks to telecoms multiservice access solutions firm Calix.

The company's E7-2 Ethernet Service Access Platform is helping to bring some of the fastest speeds in the UK to the rural communities of Conderton and Overbury.

Homes and businesses connected to the Overbury Estate network will be able to access speeds of up to 1Gbps, allowing them to take advantage of services such as high-definition video streaming.

Plans are also in the pipeline to extend network coverage to include public buildings such as the village hall, church and school.

Penelope Bossom, whose family has owned and managed Overbury Estate for almost three centuries, said the introduction of fibre broadband is part of her plan to develop a rural quality of life that is "as well-resourced as urban living, but with all the advantages of landscape and environment, relaxed lifestyle and close community ties".

A pilot of the service has already proved successful and the rollout is now continuing to include all homes on the estate, she explained.
