Clapham to welcome hyperfast broadband

New hyperfast broadband connectivity is being rolled out in a series of North Yorkshire villages.

Residents in Clapham and a number of surrounding villages in North Yorkshire are preparing to reap the benefits of new hyperfast broadband connectivity.

Local publication the Craven Herald reports first groundwork has officially begun as part of the Broadband for the Rural North (B4RN) scheme, which will see local residents digging the trenches and installing all necessary cabling for the new network themselves.

To date, more than £130,000 has been raised by local communities to fund B4RN.

New 1,000 Mbps broadband will be delivered to areas around Bleak Bank and properties in Clapham, Keasden, Mewith and Newby once all installation work has been completed.

The first groundworks have been carried out by 50 members of the local community, with this key milestone for the scheme being televised by BBC Look North.

It is hoped the project will serve as a benchmark for similar other schemes around the country, with communities banding together to address shortfalls in delivery of the latest broadband technologies.
