Claranet SOHO recommends fibre broadband to online gamers

The technology can improve the online gaming experience by reducing lag.

Online gamers will find their experience is improved by switching to a fibre optic broadband connection, according to Claranet SOHO.

The internet service provider has announced the unveiling of a new fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) package that offers up to 40Mbps download speeds, with a guaranteed minimum capability of 8Mbps.

Hailing the launch, Claranet SOHO director Jason Keen - a keen gamer - explained he recently moved to a fibre optic broadband connection and can now play online even when his wife and son are using the internet.

"Before switching to FTTC, I would be constantly banging my head against the wall when playing online. The lag would often cause my game to stall, resulting in my untimely death," he remarked.

At present, the technology only covers around ten to 15 per cent of the UK, but exchanges are upgraded across the country on a daily basis.

Earlier this month, BT revealed more than 10,000 properties in Tonbridge will be able to access the service when improvement works are finished by engineers in the coming weeks.
