Fibre broadband rolled out to 4,000 Ledbury properties

Wednesday, May 8th 2013 by Paul France
BT has boosted its super-fast broadband coverage in Herefordshire.

BT has rolled out fibre optic broadband to thousands of properties in the Herefordshire market town of Ledbury.

The service is now available to almost 4,000 homes and businesses in the area thanks to the telecoms giant's £2.5 billion commercial deployment, according to the Ledbury Reporter.

Under the scheme, BT has previously upgraded its broadband infrastructure in Hereford, while the nearby town of Leominster is set to benefit from the initiative later this year.

North Herefordshire MP Bill Wiggin described the move as a "welcome and significant step" for Ledbury.

"At a time when our local economy needs a boost, important developments - such as the government's and BT's investment in super-fast broadband - offer us the potential to create new opportunities, services and growth," he added.

As well as its commercial rollout, the company is partnering with public sector partners to improve coverage in rural communities.

One of these partnerships, announced last month, will see BT bring fibre broadband to 96 per cent of properties across Cheshire.
