Fibrestream seeks details of BDUK costs and achievements

The company has sent a freedom of information request to the government's delivery vehicle for broadband policy.

Fibre optic broadband provider Fibrestream has lodged a request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to discover exactly what has been spent and achieved by Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK).

The query, which was sent to BDUK, Communications Minister Ed Vaizey and Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt, aims to unearth details of the expenditure incurred by the body between July 15th 2010 and August 5th 2011.

In particular, Fibrestream is keen to find out all direct and indirect staff costs, including those involving travel, accommodation and expenses, along with the name of each individual to make use of these charges.

Other factors in the FOIA request include identifying the procurement process used to ensure the best value for money was achieved from the "diversion or sequestration of BBC licence payers' money for the purposes of BDUK delivery".

Fibrestream has previously accused the government organisation of "distorting the market" and delaying investment in next-generation access across the country, particularly in Cumbria.
