Surf Telecoms has signed a deal that will allow it to connect with Geo's fibre optic network.

Fibre optic broadband operator Geo Networks has announced the agreement of a new five-year wholesale services and bandwidth deal with Surf Telecoms.

Under the terms of the deal, Surf will interconnect with Geo's fibre optic network infrastructure, allowing the company to expand its coverage in the region between Bristol and Tewkesbury.

Several other firms were invited to tender for the contract, but Geo won through thanks to its fully scalable and reliable high-speed dedicated fibre network, as well as its willingness to help Surf meet the needs of its customers.

Chris Smedley, chief executive of Geo, said its partner will be able to ensure that all customers are able to utilise a resilient network that can cope with high bandwidth levels.

"Data delivery times will be improved and it will remove the risk of service interruptions often associated with shared platforms, subsequently ensuring customer confidence," he added.

According to Geo, its partners can achieve savings of at least 30 per cent on their network running costs inside 18 months.
