The network operator has won approval to deploy fibre in the Thames Valley.

Gigaclear has been given the green light to deploy fibre optic broadband infrastructure in the Thames Valley.

Ofcom's approval of the initiative means the company could soon roll out its gigabit network to residents and businesses in the area, reports Computer Weekly.

The regulator explained: "Gigaclear intends to mainly use fibre and their own ducts but also anticipate that they may use other technologies and duct, pole and passive infrastructure from other suppliers."

As well as laying fibre optic cables, the service provider has promised to share equipment and cooperate with utilities firms and local authorities over the project.

It will also allow third-party companies to make use of the infrastructure.

Ofcom expressed confidence that the network will increase competition in the local broadband market.

Gigaclear is aiming to launch in selected parts of the UK this year and is set to make an announcement on its initial areas of coverage before the end of spring.
