Gloucester residents launch fibre broadband campaign

Gloucester residents have started a campaign for fibre optic broadband.

A group of residents from an area of Gloucester have launched a campaign to try to bring fibre optic broadband to their homes.

Those who live and work on the local estate of Coopers Edge, near Brockworth, claim that download speeds of less than 1.5 Mbps are holding them back. In response, they are now pressuring BT to bring the superfast network to the area.

Co-founder of the Cooper’s Edge Fibre Upgrade Campaign James Scott explained that the service provider has stalled somewhat in its intentions to install the infrastructure.

He said: "The broadband connection in Cooper’s Edge is diabolical and for years we have been promised that a fibre optic connection will be installed, but it keeps getting pushed back."

Mr Scott went on to say that there are a number of people on the estate who work from home in roles such as Web Developers. He claimed that the poor connectivity is making it harder for them to succeed in their professions.

BT responded by saying it is too early to give a concrete date as to when the area will be upgraded.
