KC fibre broadband rollout offers boost to east Yorks employment

Engineering firm Light Source has created six jobs to support KC's east Yorkshire fibre broadband rollout.

KC's fibre optic broadband rollout has delivered a boost to recruitment in the east Yorkshire area.

So far, six local jobs have been created by network design and engineering firm Light Source, which has been contracted to help out with the installation of Lightstream fibre broadband. The company is expected to announce further vacancies before the end of the year.

Based in Nottinghamshire, Light Source specialises in the deployment of fibre optic infrastructure and has previously delivered projects for the likes of Fujitsu, Virgin Media and Cable & Wireless.

Its engineers have been working on the KC rollout in Hull and east Yorkshire since January 2012. In that time, they have helped to bring the Lightstream service within reach of more than 20,000 homes and businesses across the region, with this number expected to exceed 45,000 by March 2015.

Commenting on the tie-up with Light Source, KC's Engineering Director Andy Whale said: "This is a long-term project so we wanted to work with a partner who can bring benefits to the local community at the same time as supporting our ambitious Lightstream rollout."
