KC says fibre broadband will boost Hull employment

The rollout of fibre broadband could create more jobs in Hull and the rest of east Yorkshire.

Fibre optic broadband could lead to the creation of more jobs in Hull and across east Yorkshire, according to KC's commercial and finance director Sean Royce.

Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail, Mr Royce said the telecoms firm is looking to attract more businesses to the area and is particularly targeting digital industries.

These sectors already employ approximately six per cent of the UK workforce and have continued to grow by around four per cent a year throughout the economic downturn.

Across the country as a whole, estimates suggest the rollout of super-fast broadband will create 600,000 jobs and boost GDP to the tune of £18 billion.

Mr Royce stated: "Wouldn't it be great to bring some of those jobs here and stimulate the local economy using our fibre network?"

His comments come shortly after KC unveiled the latest locations that will be included in its east Yorkshire fibre broadband rollout this year.

The Kingswood, Greatfield estate and Pickering Park areas are among those set to benefit from the deployment.
