Fibre broadband is on its way to more Lancashire homes and businesses.

Superfast fibre optic broadband is set to arrive in several more Lancashire communities, thanks to the £130 million Superfast Lancashire rollout programme.

Turton, Brinscall, Padiham, certain parts of Burnley, Appley Bridge, Fylde, Brinscall, Rufford, Preston and Hoghton are next in line to gain a connection to the technology under the project, while additional delivery work will be finalised in Coppull and Whalley.

Altogether, approximately 40,000 residential properties and commercial buildings will gain access to the superfast service during this next phase of the rollout.

Lancashire County Council's Champion for Digital Inclusion Sean Serridge commented: "Faster fibre broadband is hugely important for the county, both economically and socially."

Currently, over 64,000 premises in the area have access to the internet service, with this expected to reach more than 100,000 over the coming weeks.

Digital Economy Minister Ed Vaizey added: "I congratulate Superfast Lancashire on its excellent progress to date."

The latest homes and businesses to benefit from a connection to the high-speed infrastructure should be able to contact their network provider for an upgrade within the next two months.
