Lincolnshire residents get fibre broadband boost early

Thursday, November 21st 2013 by Paul France
Fibre optic broadband has come to 1,400 more properties in Lincolnshire.

A rollout project that is aiming to bring fibre optic broadband access to homes and businesses across Lincolnshire has introduced the service to the town of Spalding ahead of schedule.

Residents were delighted to discover that the next-generation network installed by BT has gone live two months before the expected date.

This is the first switch-on that is part of the onlincolnshire project, which is a collaboration between the service provider and a number of councils.

The latest move will benefit areas of Spalding that were not included in BT's commercial rollout, including High Street, Camel Gate and Low Road among others.

Lincolnshire County Council Executive Member for IT Richard Davies was keen to stress the importance of superfast broadband to the local economy.

He said: "Superfast speeds will mean that businesses will be able to increase their efficiency, create better connections with customers and break into global markets."

The new rollout will see 1,400 more properties in Spalding join 12,000 that are already connected to fibre optic broadband.
