New website launched for Essex fibre broadband campaign

The new Superfast Essex website will inform people in the county about their area's fibre broadband rollout.

A new website has been launched to support the Superfast Essex rollout campaign, which aims to bring high-speed fibre optic broadband to homes and businesses based throughout the county.

The campaign's aim is to bring the superfast technology to 87 per cent of residential and commercial properties in the area before the end of 2016. This initiative is being funded by BT, Essex County Council and Broadband Delivery UK, who have donated £24.6 million to the project in total, the Herts and Essex Observer reports.

To help local people understand the rollout, Superfast Essex's website has been updated with a number of new functions, including a postcode checker so that residents can see when fibre broadband is coming to their address.

In addition to this, the new website features a speed checker tool and a section where people can find out which service providers are operating the superfast technology in their area.

David Finch, Leader of Essex County Council, commented: "Superfast Essex is constantly evolving and we want to keep our residents and businesses as informed as possible throughout. We hope the new website will help us do this, particularly with the new easy-to-use postcode checker tool."
