North Yorkshire fibre optic reaches 100k

Wednesday, February 26th 2014 by Editorial
It has been announced that fibre optic broadband has reached 100,000 homes and businesses in North Yorkshire.

More than 40,000 homes and businesses in North Yorkshire are already using fibre optic broadband.

But this could be set to rise according to Superfast North Yorkshire, which claims 100,000 premises in the county can now access high-speed internet infrastructure.

A number of areas, including Appleton Roebuck, Leyburn, Whitley Bridge and Tollerton, which previously had poor conventional internet, have now been connected to BT's fibre optic network.

Since Christmas a total of 12 new exchange areas and 57 cabinets have been installed - something which won the praise of a local brand communications company director.

Nicola David, founder of Bangyourowndrum, said: "Having fibre broadband has enabled me to make efficiencies to my business that were impossible before I signed up for the Superfast North Yorkshire business support programme."

Superfast North Yorkshire aims to connect 90 per cent of the county to superfast broadband by the end of 2014.
