NYnet fibre broadband network powers RAF Leeming Wi-Fi

More than 400 residents at RAF Leeming are set to gain access to fast wireless broadband.

The NYnet fibre optic broadband network is being used to extend faster wireless internet connectivity to hundreds of residents at RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire.

Internet service provider ilovebroadband is using the super-fast broadband infrastructure to deliver speeds of up to 10Mbps to more than 400 householders at the remote RAF facility.

The move will make it easier for families to use online communications methods such as email and webcam to stay in touch with their loved ones posted overseas.

Martyn Boswell, managing director of ilovebroadband, claimed the wireless broadband network should be completed during the first quarter of 2012.

Business development director at NYnet Paul Crane thanked the RAF Leeming School for being the hub of the network, adding: "They could see the benefit to their students of having access to the internet for school work at home."

Public sector organisations taking advantage of NYnet's fibre broadband infrastructure include NHS North Yorkshire & York and Ryedale District Council.
