Ofcom reports surge in broadband speed satisfaction

Less than a third of customers have endured slower-than-expected broadband speeds this year.

Consumers may have become more satisfied with the performance of their fibre optic broadband connection in recent months.

New research from Ofcom showed 30 per cent of broadband customers have experienced slower-than-anticipated download or upload capabilities during this year, compared to 35 per cent in 2010.

Despite this decrease, the regulator pledged to continue conducting studies into the real-world speeds received by subscribers.

When all communications services are taken into account, customer satisfaction in relation to reliability of service was found to be lowest among fixed-line broadband subscribers who chose their package as a standalone product rather than as a bundle.

However, the level of contentment among subscribers was still relatively high at 81 per cent.

Earlier this year, Ofcom revealed overall satisfaction with super-fast fibre optic broadband deals is strong at 80 per cent, compared to 57 per cent happiness among respondents with their previous package.

Almost two-thirds of super-fast broadband customers said they were more likely to download high-definition content since upgrading their connection.
