Perth fibre broadband deployment hailed by politicians

Roseanna Cunningham MSP and Pete Wishart MP have praised the news.

Scottish politicians have hailed news that BT is planning to roll out fibre optic broadband in the city of Perth.

The local exchange is one of several that will be upgraded by the telecoms giant by autumn 2012 in a move that will bring super-fast connectivity to an additional 45,600 Scottish homes and businesses.

Other towns and cities that are set to benefit from the work include Galashiels and Peebles in the Scottish Borders, Bannockburn in Stirlingshire, Morningside in Edinburgh and Strathaven in South Lanarkshire.

Roseanna Cunningham MSP welcomed the development, noting that many parts of Perth are currently hampered by poor-quality broadband access, reports the Perth Advertiser.

"Now, we must ensure rural Perthshire and Kinross-shire can keep pace with the city," she declared.

Pete Wishart MP echoed Ms Cunningham's comments, declaring the fibre broadband rollout is a "big boost" for residents and businesses.

"Vastly improved broadband connection speeds will also add to the attractiveness of the Fair City," he added.
