Politicians welcome fibre broadband launch in Inverkeithing

Super-fast broadband is set to be deployed to almost 8,000 properties in Inverkeithing.

Politicians have praised BT for rolling out fibre optic broadband to the town of Inverkeithing, Fife.

Over the coming weeks, engineers from the telecoms giant will make the super-fast broadband service available to more than 7,900 homes and businesses in the area.

The move follows similar upgrades in the nearby communities of Dalgety Bay and Dunfermline, while Kirkcaldy and Leven are set to be connected in the months ahead.

Cowdenbeath MSP Helen Eadie said the rollout is recognition of Inverkeithing's location within the Scottish "golden mile" of economic activity and described the development as "an invaluable support" to local businesses.

Thomas Docherty, MP for Dunfermline and West Fife, added: "Super-fast broadband will create new opportunities for everyone in our area, giving our businesses a competitive edge."

Elsewhere in Scotland, BT last month announced the launch of fibre optic broadband in Aberdeen, with plans afoot to bring the technology to 26,500 local properties served by the Ashgrove and Denburn exchanges.
