Rutland receives fibre optic broadband upgrade

Tuesday, November 12th 2013 by Paul France
Rutland premises are receiving fibre optic broadband access thanks to a local rollout project.

The region of Rutland has been introduced to fibre optic broadband as part of a rollout project that will upgrade ten exchanges in the area.

Digital Rutland is a scheme that is being implemented by Rutland County Council to bring a next-generation broadband service to as much of the area as possible.

With work well underway, the council claims that 91 per cent of the properties that will benefit from the project have now got access to superfast speeds.

There have, however, been some criticisms that Digital Rutland will exclude homes and businesses located in the most rural areas of the region.

But the council has been quick to react and has written to the government in an attempt to dispel any myths surrounding the project. It has also given a guarantee that 97 per cent of premises in Rutland will have gained access by the end of 2014.

Residents can hope to receive speeds of up to 80Mbps thanks to the new fibre optic network.
