The highest village in Scotland to receive superfast broadband has been named.

An historic village in Moray will become the highest point in Scotland to benefit from superfast broadband connectivity in the coming months.

The Press & Journal reports the village of Tomintoul is among the latest list of beneficiaries to be included in planned superfast connectivity rollouts under the ongoing £410 million Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband Partnership.

Standing 1,132 feet above sea level, it is to become the highest settlement in Scotland to feature superfast broadband services and has been cited as an example of the kind of place where improved connectivity can have the greatest benefits for local communities.

Connections in the area are expected to go live this summer and will deliver download speeds of up to 80 Mbps for homes and businesses.

Local MP Angus Robertson stated: "Superfast broadband is critical in growing and maintaining the competitiveness of areas like Moray to ensure that our businesses can compete and residents can access modern digital services."
