Sharp's Brewery benefits from Cornwall fibre broadband rollout

Rock-based Sharp's Brewery has had its connection upgraded by BT.

A brewery located in the north Cornwall village of Rock has become one of the latest to sign up for BT's fibre optic broadband service.

As part of its Superfast Cornwall partnership with the EU and Cornwall Council, BT is aiming to roll out the technology to at least 95 per cent of homes and businesses across the county and the Isles of Scilly during 2014.

Sharp's Brewery, which is one of more than 1,100 properties in Rock, Pityme and St Minver to benefit from the deployment, had previously struggled with connection issues and regularly saw its servers go down.

These problems are a thing of the past now that the company has been hooked up to fibre broadband by BT, with the new connection regularly providing speeds of 40Mbps.

Sarah Allcock, the brewer's head of finance, said: "Super-fast [broadband] has resulted in a step change in reliability when accessing the internet, sending and receiving documents electronically and updating our website."
