Small firms in line for government fibre broadband vouchers

Small businesses can apply for government broadband vouchers worth £3,000 to boost their internet connections.

Following last week's announcement from the government that it will be cutting red tape for people to run their own business from home, it has now stated it is making superfast fibre broadband vouchers available to small companies.

This means home-based businesses may be able to benefit from this latest connectivity initiative, enjoying significantly faster internet loading speeds.

Firms based in 22 UK cities will be able to apply for grants of up to £3,000 to boost their broadband, with this sum covering the cost of equipment and upgrades.

Last week, the government announced it would be updating guidance, detailing that planning permission is not needed for home-based firms, while it will be made easier to run a business from a rented property.

Founder of Enterprise Nation Emma Jones MBE explained: "One in ten domestic properties are now home to at least one business and they already contribute £300 billion to the British economy."

In addition, business rates guidance is set to be updated to highlight that these will not necessarily apply to companies run from someone's house.
