The installation of new sub-sea cabling to bring superfast broadband to communities the Scottish Highlands has been completed.

Hundreds of miles of sub-sea cabling have been installed throughout the Scottish Highlands as part of the ongoing Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband scheme.

A total of 20 under-sea crossings have now been completed throughout the Clyde, the Inner and Outer Hebrides and the Northern Isles, with this work forming a key part of the provision of upgraded connectivity for many remote communities.

Argyll and Bute MSP Michael Russell stated: "Its successful completion brings the day closer when the majority of people in Argyll and Bute will be able to access superfast broadband, which is of huge importance to business and to everyday domestic life."

Now the extensive system of fibre optics have been installed across the region, the final stage of the programme will be the connection of individual communities to the network, with a full rollout of superfast connectivity expected to be completed during the first half of 2016.
