Superfast broadband boost for Shropshire business park

Thursday, January 16th 2014 by Paul France
Fibre optic broadband has come to Battlefield Business Park in Shropshire.

A host of businesses from the outskirts of Shrewsbury are celebrating after being connected to fibre optic broadband.

The Connecting Shropshire project is a collaboration between Shropshire Council and BT. It has seen a total investment of £24.6 million, which has facilitated next-generation networks being rolled out all over the region.

Its latest switch-on has seen firms that operate at the Battlefield Business Park introduced to speeds that could peak as high as 80 Mbps - well above the UK average.

Homeowners in the surrounding areas will also benefit from the move, which has brought the service to a total of 3,500 premises.

Shropshire Business Board Champion for Broadband Nick Chavasse MBE explained that the installation would be a surefire way of guaranteeing the companies that operate at the park can stay up to speed with their competitors.

He said: "Fast and reliable broadband connectivity helps businesses to work smarter in a number of ways, including communicating better and exploiting new market opportunities.”
