More than 2.5 million properties can now access superfast broadband connections in the UK.

Figures published by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport have revealed the number of properties able to secure superfast broadband connections across the UK has now breached the 2.5 million mark.

With an ongoing investment of £1.7 billion in the nationwide rollout of next-generation online services, the government remains committed to achieving 95 per cent coverage by the end of 2017.

These latest DCMS figures are therefore extremely welcome, as they highlight the considerable efforts that continue to be made to deliver new broadband services across the length and breadth of the country.

Responding to the announcement, Digital Economy Minister Ed Vaizey said: "We’re rolling out superfast broadband at a terrific rate and we’re reaching another 5,000 homes and businesses every day."

He added that many of the projects are being delivered ahead of schedule, with many homes and businesses eager to upgrade to superfast broadband as it becomes available in their area.
