Warrington fibre broadband campaign backed by MP

David Mowat MP is backing a super-fast broadband campaign in Warrington.

Warrington South MP David Mowat has given his support to a campaign that aims to boost fibre optic broadband access in the north-west town.

Launched by the Warrington Guardian, the scheme is designed to ensure every part of the borough can connect to the fastest-possible broadband service.

Mr Mowat noted that broadband exclusion is not only an issue in rural communities, but in reality is also a problem facing many towns.

In Warrington, the recently developed suburb of Chapelford has endured particular struggles with broadband connectivity, he explained.

"I'm delighted progress is now being made," the MP said. "I have repeatedly spoken to BT about these issues and I am pleased to see that things are moving forward."

Last month, BT revealed Warrington has been included in the latest phase of its national £2.5 billion fibre optic broadband deployment.

During 2013, the telecoms giant will roll out the technology to more than 23,000 homes and businesses in the town.
